Chautauqua Lake & Watershed Management Alliance receives a $500,000 grant for the construction of the Jefferson Project’s Tributary Monitoring Stations

The Chautauqua Lake & Watershed Management Alliance will be acting as a pass-through fiduciary for a grant awarded for the construction and outfitting of a suite of Chautauqua Lake stream monitoring stations, as contracted by the Chautauqua Institution for the Jefferson Project. The new stream monitoring stations will be an essential component of the first-ever comprehensive and real time picture of Chautauqua Lake’s ecological dynamics. These monitoring stations will record new data on the temperature, pH, and nutrient levels entering the lake from key streams within the watershed. The data will help identify what types of activities in the watershed are contributing to pollutants in the lake that in turn are contributing to harmful algae blooms and other ecological problems.
